Olympic Stadium

Olympic Stadium has been there ever since 2nd century followed by renovations in 1896 and 2004 located in Athens, Greece. The Olympic stadium is owned by Greek government which can hold currently at least 70,000 people. The Olympic stadium’s last game in history was played in 426 AD until it was shut down for 15 centuries followed by earthquakes and floods until it was discovered back in 1875.

In Athens, the Olympic stadium is named after “Spiros Louis” who was first marathon race winner in 1896 in modern Olympic stadium. The stadium’s construction began in 1979 and finished in 1982 and was inaugurated by the President of Greece, Konstantinos Karamanlis. In 2004, the stadium was extremely renovated to host the Olympic game. The stadium built a roof designed by Santiago Calatrava that brought a beautiful interior look especially during night times at the games. The 2004 Olypmpic game hosted the opening and closing ceremony of it in this stadium.

Besides the Olympic Games, there are other major events that also take place in this stadium. 2007 UEFA Champions League Final was held in 1983, 1987, and 1994; football match between Olympiacos and Hamburg was held on 3 November 1983; Amnesty International's Human Rights Now! Benefit Concert was held on 3 October 1988, U2 Irish rock band performance was held in September 2010 marking the highest attended concert ever in the history of Greece, Pyx Lax Greek band performed in July 2011, and Bon Jovi American hard rock band was also held in July 2011.

When visiting Athens, try to visit Olympic stadium during an event because of its spectacular lightening and sounds during night games and concerts.
